Old Blighty's language?

India contributed about a tenth of the new words added to the 7th and 8th editions of the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary. As new words like "airdash" and "prepone" join the club of English words originating from India, iQ takes a look at some of the long-established members of this club. One is in the title of this post itself.

    The words are:
    1. Bandana: Here you see Roger Federer sporting his well-known Nike Swoosh bandana.
    2. Cummerbund: James Bond never wears a cummerbund under his tuxedo, but Daniel Craig certainly does!
    3. Atoll
    4. Juggernaut
    5. Thug: Rapper Tupac Shakur's album "Thug Life: Vol 1" was one of the most controversial and successful gangsta rap albums.
    6. Jodhpur: A tight-fitting trouser that extends to the ankles. Normally used while horse-riding, they have been incorporated in everyday wear too. Here you see a model sporting one from the Tommy Hilfiger spring/summer 2010 collection.

    8. Nirvana: The image is of Kurt Cobain, lead singer/guitarist of the band Nirvana.
    9. Aryan: Tyler Bingham, a member of the Aryan Brotherhood gang.
